"The Kissing Hand"
One of my most favorite books for young children is entitled The Kissing Hand, by author Audrey Penn. I read this book a lot in my classroom to help children who have trouble with separation and attachment. I love the illustrations in the book, but most of all I like the story line. When my daughter was able to know that I leaving her at childcare and cried, it broke my heart. I wanted to her to be tough and suck it up, because I had to go to work to provide a living for her. However the mother Raccoon in the story so gracefully reassures her son that it's ok to go to school. I like the idea of the kissing hand that she told him about because it helped him to face his fears and reminded him of his mothers love. Also this book is not to short and its not to long, if you haven't read it please do so.

I adore the book The Kissing Hand! A wonderful book - I also have really enjoyed her other books such as A Pocketful of Kisses or A Kiss Goodbye. Knowing there will be tears from our children is so hard, this book comforted my son when he was frightened to leave for a long day in first grade. Being an early childhood educator means even more knowing we can help little ones in these moments.
ReplyDeleteI love this book. It is always the first book I would read to begin the school year.
